Why I Love This Burger Sauce Recipe

I always say the little things are what make a meal memorable, and this burger sauce is exactly that.

It’s the kind of thing you might think you don’t need — until you try it. Then suddenly, no burger feels complete without it. It’s creamy, a little tangy, and has just the right amount of sweetness and smokiness to balance everything out.

What I love most is that it’s made entirely from things I already have in my kitchen. And it’s not fussy — there’s no chopping, no fancy ingredients, just a few spoonfuls and a quick mix. In fact, I couldn’t even break it down into more than one step in my recipe instructions!

But it tastes like something you’d get from your favorite diner or a great backyard cookout. That’s the kind of recipe I come back to time and again.

I also love how versatile it is. It’s a no-brainer that it’s great on burgers, but I also use the leftovers on sandwiches, as a dip for fries, or even with grilled chicken. Make it once, and I guarantee you’ll be looking for excuses for how to use it more often.

Burger Sauce Ingredients

Pantry staples come together to form this straightforward sauce:

  • Mayonnaise forms a rich, creamy base that holds everything together. If you want, you can make your own homemade mayonnaise!
  • Ketchup brings sweetness and a slightly salty flavor.
  • Yellow mustard forms a classic combo with the ketchup to add tang and sweetness.
  • Sweet pickle relish balances the sauce with a crunchy texture and hint of sweetness. I love to make my own pickle relish each summer!
  • Smoked paprika gives a smoky, BBQ-style undertone.
  • Garlic powder adds a mild yet sharp element, giving a new layer of flavor to the dish.
  • Worcestershire sauce brings extra savory complexity to the sauce.

How to Make Burger Sauce

There is only one super-easy step to make this burger sauce! Simply add mayo, ketchup, yellow mustard, sweet pickle relish, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, and garlic powder to a bowl and mix everything together. You’re done!

Pro Tips

  • Let it rest before using. After mixing, give the sauce 10–15 minutes to sit. This lets the flavors meld and taste even better.
  • Whisk it well. A quick whisk helps emulsify the ingredients so the sauce turns smooth and creamy. No separation, please!
  • Adjust to taste. If you like it tangier, add a splash more vinegar or mustard. If you want a bit of a kick, add a pinch of cayenne or hot sauce.
  • Make it ahead. This sauce only gets better with time. Store it in the fridge and use it all week long.

Serving and Storage

To serve: Once the sauce is mixed together, let it sit slightly before using it (about 10-15 minutes). Then, it’s perfect for topping burgers, sandwiches, wraps, or as a dip for fries, roasted veggies, or even chicken tenders.

To store: Store the sauce in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.

I made this recipe on Memorial Day for our grilled burgers. It is very tasty. Everyone really enjoyed the extra “yum” it gave to our burgers. I also shared the recipe with quite a few relatives and friends. Thank YOU for sharing the recipe also.
P.s. … I also just bought your cookbook.
