Why I Love This Fall Margarita

A change of season doesn’t mean margarita season has to end, right? I mean, I don’t think my margarita season ever ends, because I’ll take a classic one any time of the year. But this apple cider margarita keeps the fresh, citrusy flavor I love, then adds sparkling apple cider for a crisp, festive finish.

It comes together really quickly in a shaker and makes enough for a single serving, but it’s easy enough to multiply to serve more. Pour it over ice, top with some bubbles, and add a garnish that feels like fall. It’s a simple drink to enjoy as the evenings turn cooler.

What makes this a perfect fall drink:

  • Full of apple flavor with plenty of apple cider.
  • Simple to mix, made from just 5 ingredients.
  • Easy to make for a crowd. Mix the pitcher ahead of time, then top each glass with club soda when serving.

Apple Cider Margarita Ingredients

This fall cocktail uses a few ingredients:

  • Tequila – Use your favorite variety; I always prefer a blanco tequila, such as Lalo.
  • Orange liqueur – Adds a bit of a sweet citrus note.
  • Lime juice – An essential component to any margarita recipe; freshly squeezed for the brightest flavor.
  • Apple cider – Crisp fall flavor.
  • Club soda – To top the drinks; make sure it’s also chilled!
  • Ground cinnamon, cinnamon sticks, and apple slices – All options for a finishing garnish.
  • And you’ll need some ice – For shaking and serving.

The full amount of each ingredient can be found in the recipe card below.

How to Make Apple Cider Margarita

There’s just 1 easy step to make this apple cider margarita:

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the tequila, orange liqueur, apple cider, and lime juice. Shake until well chilled. Pour the mixture into a glass filled with ice, then add club soda to top. Garnish with ground cinnamon, cinnamon stick, and an apple slice, if desired. Serve right away.

BONUS TIP

How to Make a Batch

For a fall or holiday gathering, this recipe is easy to make by the pitcher. Stir together the tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice, and apple cider, then refrigerate until ready to serve.

When ready to serve, pull out the pitcher and pour individual servings into ice-filled glasses. Top each with club soda just before serving to keep it bubbly. Garnish as desired.

See the notes in the recipe card below for the amounts to make a batch that serves 8.

Recipe Tips

  • Use fresh lime juice – Fresh is so much better than anything that can be purchased in a bottle.
  • Chill the soda first – Cold club soda will make sure the finished drink is crisp and bubbly.
  • Add the bubbles last – Top each glass just before serving so the drink stays perfectly fizzy.
  • Make it your own – Taste the shaken mixture before topping, then adjust as desired so it’s the perfect margarita for you.

Serving & Storage

Serving – Serve over ice in a margarita or rocks glass, with club soda poured over the top. The garnishes are completely up to you: ground cinnamon, a cinnamon stick, and apple slices make for easy garnishes. For best flavor and fizz, serve immediately.

Storage – If you’d like to prepare ahead, mix the tequila, orange liqueur, apple cider, and lime juice and refrigerate in a sealed container for up to 1 day. Pour over ice and add the club soda just before serving.
