This simple blueberry cobbler is buttery, golden, and bursting with juicy blueberries. With pantry staples, it’s a quick, comforting dessert that’s perfect year-round.

Why I Love to Make This Blueberry Cobbler
When blueberries are in season, this cobbler is one of the easiest—and most satisfying—ways to enjoy them. The batter is quick to mix and magically bakes up through the berries into a soft, golden topping. I love that it doesn’t require special equipment or fancy techniques, just a handful of ingredients and an oven.
Every summer, I make at least one trip to my favorite Blueberry Bottom Farm to pick fresh, locally grown blueberries. It’s one of those annual summer traditions I look forward to—early mornings in the sunshine, the sound of birds, and blueberry plants packed with fruit. I always bring home a few gallons, and this cobbler is one of the first things I bake. It’s simple, buttery, and the perfect way to let those sweet berries shine.
Whether you’re using fresh-picked blueberries or frozen ones from the freezer, this recipe is a go-to classic that never disappoints.
Here are the reasons you’ll love it:
- Quick to prep with minimal effort.
- Great for fresh or frozen blueberries, so it works all year long.
- Soft, cake-like topping contrasts perfectly with juicy fruit.
- One bowl and one dish make the cleanup super easy.
- Always a crowd-pleaser, especially with ice cream.

Blueberry Cobbler Ingredients
This blueberry cobbler comes together with just 8 pantry staples—fresh berries included.
- Unsalted butter – Adds rich flavor and prevents sticking by coating the pan before baking.
- Blueberries – The star of the show! Use fresh for the best texture or frozen if out of season.
- All-purpose flour – Forms the structure of the soft, tender cobbler topping.
- Granulated sugar – Works to sweeten both the berries and the batter.
- Baking powder – Gives the cobbler topping its lift and fluffiness.
- Kosher salt – Balances sweetness and enhances flavor.
- Whole milk – Creates a pourable batter and helps the topping bake up soft and rich.
- Vanilla extract – Adds warm, sweet depth to the cobbler batter. I love to use my own homemade vanilla for tons of flavor!

How to Make Blueberry Cobbler
There are 4 easy steps to make this cobbler recipe.
See the full recipe instructions below for all the details.
Melt the butter in the dish – Add the butter to an 8 x 8-inch baking dish. Place the dish in the oven as it preheats. Let the butter fully melt, then remove the dish from the oven.
Mix the batter – Whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add the milk and vanilla extract and whisk until smooth with no lumps.

Assemble the cobbler – Pour the batter over the melted butter in the baking dish. Do not stir. Then, sprinkle the blueberries on top of the batter.

Bake – Bake in the preheated oven until the top is golden brown and the center is fully set. As it bakes, the batter will gently work its way up through the berries. Let the cobbler cool for 15 minutes before enjoying. The juices will thicken slightly as the cobbler rests.

Recipe Tips
- Don’t stir the batter into the butter—just pour it right in. This helps create those buttery, crisp edges.
- Using frozen berries? No need to thaw, but add 5-10 minutes to the baking time to account for extra moisture.
- Want a different flavor? This recipe works with so many fruits. Make sure to check out my recipes for cherry cobbler, peach cobbler, and raspberry cobbler.
