Kip’s Peanut Butter Dog Biscuits

Dogs truly are a human's best friend! So that's why it's important to give them wholesome, clean food, just like we do in our own bodies. These peanut butter dog biscuits are my dog's favorite homemade treat and they'll soon be your dog's as well!

I do not make a lot of my dog Kip’s food. When it comes to his daily kibble, I’m always looking for the best quality foods. But I’m often worried that what I would make at home would not be as nutritious for him as what I find available in stores.

Treats are a different story. So many of the treats we find for pets have too many ingredients and can contain allergins.

These treats are made from a simple list of ingredients, which makes me feel wonderful feeding to Kip. I love that all of the ingredients are the same quality I would use in any baked good for humans. Plus, each ingredient is just as good raw as when baked.

The ingredients in these peanut butter treats

Old-fashioned rolled oats are naturally gluten free. I use the old fashioned variety as they have the least amount of processing along with good texture and chew. If possible, choose organic so no pesticides were used in the growing.
Peanut butter is a treat for most animals. Kip loves peanut butter and it’s a good source of protein. But it also has some needed sweetness as no other sugar is added to the treats. Make sure to use peanut butter that does not contain xylitol!
Ground flax seed is a terrific source of protein and fiber. The flavor is not noticeable in the treats and the nutrients it provides makes it a great add-in.
Banana acts not only as sweetness and flavor but also as a binder. There are no eggs in the recipe and the banana takes the place of what an egg usually does.
Oat flour is used to roll out the treats. I do not buy oat flour, but instead grind up some oats. This creates a flour and helps the treats not stick when they’re rolled out.

These treats go together extremely quickly and bake in just a few minutes. I store them in an airtight container on the counter and use them within the week, much to Kip’s enjoyment. If they’re not going to be used within the week, I would recommend storing them in the freezer to keep them fresh!

Kip is always excited about these and honestly, if you give them a taste, you may be surprised yourself!

Kip’s Peanut Butter Dog Biscuits

Ingredients

▢ 1 ½ cups old-fashioned oats
▢ ½ cup peanut butter (make sure it does not have Xylitol)
▢ 3 tbsp ground flaxseed
▢ 1 large ripe banana cut into 1-inch pieces
▢ 2 tbsp oat flour

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350°F.
Pulse the oats in a food processor until they begin to break down, 6 pulses. Add the peanut butter, ground flaxseed, and banana. Pulse the food processor until the mixture is evenly combined and resembles a cookie dough, 20-30 pulses.
1 ½ cups old-fashioned oats, ½ cup peanut butter (make sure it does not have Xylitol), 3 tbsp ground flaxseed, 1 large ripe banana
Sprinkle the countertop with oat flour and roll the dough out evenly to approximately ¼ thick. Use a cookie or biscuit cutter to cut out the treats. Set them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
2 tbsp oat flour
Bake the treats in the preheated oven until they have dried out slightly. The edges will feel dry to the touch and the treat will be rigid, 10-12 minutes. Remove the treats from the oven and cool for 5 minutes. Store the treats in an airtight container on the counter for one week or in the freezer for up to one month.
