Why I Love This Punch Recipe

A signature drink can make or break a party. It can also help to put the host at ease with less to think about, especially when it comes to drinks. I always opt for one great option that all guests will enjoy (of course, with iced tea and water as complements).

For a summer party, I always love a gin-based drink, and this grapefruit punch does the trick!

There’s something about punch that instantly makes any gathering feel more festive, but that doesn’t mean it needs to be complicated. This gin punch skips the sugary syrups and canned mixers. Instead, it’s a crisp, grown-up drink with bubbles, citrus, and gin. And when it’s served with frozen grapefruit and thyme ice cubes, it’s almost too pretty to drink.

It’s easy to make, easy to serve, and even easier to sip!

Gin Punch Ingredients

You only need 4 simple ingredients to make this punch:

  • Gin – The main alcoholic component of this punch. A classic London dry gin keeps things clean and botanical.
  • Grapefruit juice – Fresh is best if you can squeeze it, but store-bought juice works too. It adds the perfect bitter, yet sweet citrus note.
  • Sparkling wine – This brings all the bubbly fun! Since there’s no added sweetness in the punch, opt for a sweeter sparkling wine. You could also use a sparkling rosé to add an even pinker hue!
  • Thyme sprigs – A simple herbal element that’s used in the ice cubes.

The full amount of each ingredient can be found in the recipe card below.

How to Make Gin Punch

Once you have the ice cubes made, this punch comes together in a few minutes. Here’s how to do it:

Make the ice cubes – In an ice cube tray, add a few thyme leaves to each cell. Pour grapefruit juice to fill and freeze for 2-4 hours, or until frozen. This can be done in advance to make the prep as easy as possible. If you have enough trays, you can make extra for any refills.

Prepare the punch – In a large pitcher or punch bowl, combine the grapefruit juice and gin, and stir to mix. Place in the fridge to chill for a few hours.

Just before serving, add the bubbles. Pour in the bottle of sparkling wine and stir gently to combine. Add half the ice cubes, reserving the other half to place a few in each glass. Serve immediately.

Alternatively, you could pour the sparkling wine on top of each individual glass.

Serving & Storage Tips

To serve: Add grapefruit ice cubes to each glass and pour in the punch using a ladle or pitcher. Serve cold, ideally within 30 minutes of adding the sparkling wine, so the bubbles stay fresh.

To store: You can mix the grapefruit juice and gin a day in advance and keep it in the fridge. Don’t add the sparkling wine or ice cubes until just before serving. Any leftovers placed in the fridge will go flat, but the flavor will still be great.
