Why I Love This Apple Galette Recipe

Desserts are always a must, but sometimes we don’t have the time to create one. Galettes are the answer. Simple, rustic, and refined, these can be made for any occasion. Dressed up or down, guests and family alike will love this tasty treat that only needs minutes to complete. And as a bonus, the filling can be changed to whatever you have on hand!

For this apple galette, I’m keeping the recipe super simple with cinnamon and allspice, letting the flavor of the apples shine through. And since apples can be purchased at any time of the year, you can make this dessert whenever you so choose!

A dollop of lightly whipped cream or ice cream can be added, but is not needed for this delicious treat. Enjoy!

Apple Galette Ingredients

This apple galette has 10 simple ingredients that form one of the easiest yet impressive dessert recipes:

  • Pie dough is the foundation of the entire galette and what holds the apple filling together. You can purchase dough at the store or make your own from scratch with my pie crust recipe.
  • Apples are essential for an apple galette. Simply slice them into ¼-inch thick slices, removing the core.
  • Brown sugar adds a deeper sweetness to the recipe, with notes of molasses.
  • Cinnamon and allspice are two spices that work well with apples, adding warmth.
  • Lemon juice works to impart some brightness and citrus “kick” to the dessert.
  • Flour binds the apple filling, giving it some structure so it isn’t too thin.
  • Salt is needed for any baked good. It brings out all of the flavors!
  • An egg is used to brush the exterior of the crust, making it golden brown.
  • Turbinado sugar is used to add a crusty, sweet crunch to the crust. If you don’t want to use it or have it on hand, simply use granulated sugar instead.

How to Make This Apple Galette

The best part about this apple galette recipe is how easy it is to make! Once you have your apples sliced and the pie dough ready, it’s pretty much just assembly and baking. It may be one of the easiest homemade desserts!

  1. Prepare the apples
  2. Fill the galette
  3. Bake the galette

Step 1: Prepare the apples. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, cinnamon, allspice, brown sugar, flour, lemon, and salt. Mix until the apples are coated.

Step 2: Fill the galette. Roll out the pie dough into a 14-inch round circle and add the sliced apples on top. Roughly crimp the edges, folding the dough over on itself, to contain the apples. Brush the exposed dough with a beaten egg and sprinkle with turbinado sugar.

Step 3: Bake the galette. Place the galette in the preheated 400°F oven and bake for 45 to 55 minutes until the edges are golden brown and the juices from the apples are bubbling.
