    • The pumpkins are all picked so I spent an evening tilling up the patch to prepare for a cover crop. Usually, I never do cover crops, but my good friend told me how annual rye works so well as a weed barrier in the pumpkins.     • Everyone always wants to know if fall is a good time to plant... Well, the answer is that I plant spring all the way through fall! Through September, I plant trees, shrubs, and perennials. After September, it's restricted to trees and shrubs only. This Skylands spruce has tips of yellow and will be a beautiful backdrop in the backyard someday. The important thing to remember is water until the ground freezes and the roots go dormant. In my zone (zone 5), that means watering all the way though November!
